CATHERINE DENEUVEis a Frenchwoman of few words: she's decided to promote her new film by not talking about it. TheFilm Society of Lincoln Centeropened the 16th annual"Rendez Vous with French Cinema"with a screening of Deneuve's new movie,"Potiche"(at the Paris Theatre, bien sur).Director Francois Ozonexplained that in French,"Potiche"means either an ornamental bowl or a trophy wife - and that Deneuve was"not a potiche at all."In a black fur coat and leopard-print heels, the screen icon looked regal on the red carpet as she dodged most press, with her publicist telling reporters that the after party would be a better time to talk. But during the fete at Le Rouge Tomate, Deneuve stayed huddled at a back table with her daughter and a couple friends, barely eating or speaking."Thees ees NOT ze right time!"her feisty publicist told reporters whenever they tried to get a word in. Pardonnez-nous! Deneuve left the party around 10:30, having stayed for no more than a half-hour.
